System integrator turns to cloud computing

System integrator CDG Group is planning to expand its business into software as a service (SaaS) or cloud computing, as well as developing multi-layered software applications to support government agencies and state and private enterprises.

 Chief executive Nart Liuchareon said that SaaS and cloud computing were technology trends and new-business models for his company, with which it would provide new services to its customers.

 "As a system integrator, or SI, we are preparing to provide software applications and solutions through SaaS and cloud computing. This will create complexity, as a variety of applications will be needed to support medium-sized and large organisations," he said.

The company is preparing tools to enable its software developers and IT specialists to develop new multi-layered software applications and solutions. These will be designed to integrate and mix existing applications to support the needs of customers, for instance, integrating human resources, oil and gas, payroll and insurance applications.

The company's software developers and specialists will take existing applications and solutions and create new, integrated solutions that might include, for instance, a payroll application, geographic information system (GIS) , management information system (MIS) and human-resources applications that will be delivered via cloud computing.

 "I think that cloud computing is not only a technology trend, but it also means a dynamic change for our business. We will use internal knowledge to develop multiple-layer applications, such as integrating oil and gas applications with pay roll and navigation applications, to develop completely new applications to support both government and private-sector organisations," Nart said.

 The company currently offers services in three main areas: providing a wide spectrum of computer, peripheral, networking, and other systems as well as application-specific software; providing system integration ranging from basic infrastructure to advanced, sophisticated and complex turnkey solutions; and providing professional services such as preventive maintenance, consulting and IT outsourcing. 

 Nart said CDG Group expected to achieve revenue of Bt9.5 billion this year, or a year-on-year growth rate of about 5 per cent. Half of the revenue comes from the private sector; the rest from the government sector.

He said CDG Group was working with a local partner in Vietnam to provide IT solutions in the Vietnamese market, but apart from this the company had no plans to expand its business into other countries.
