Notebook sales figures down

Vendors of notebooks are launching new models in the mid to high-end price range to boost consumer spending, while the recent political unrest has led to revised sales figures for 2010.

The overall forecast for Thailand's notebook market this year is estimated to be 1.6 million units, according to Prasert Charoonpaisarn, General Manager, Personal Systems Group, Hewlett-Packard (Thailand).

HP sees that the average selling price of notebooks is better than 2009 because the new technology CPUs and other components have brought the average selling at 18,000-22,000 baht.

Recently, HP also redesigned its portfolio of Mini 210 Vivienne Tam Edition, Pavilion dv3, dv6, dv7, dm 4 and ENVY 14 and HP ENVY 17 to reflect multi-sensory appeal, a rich mix of materials, touchable textures and easy-to-use features for improved usability.

The new products cover the mid to high price range at 23,000 baht to 40,000 baht. The company has also launched HP Expo with an attractive promotion through its dealers and the upcoming Commart X-Gen fair.

Meanwhile Nitipat Praweenwongwuthi, Senior Manager, Marketing Division, Acer Computer, said that the company is introducing its new generation Aspire TimelineX family, comprised of 11 series of notebooks and two series of desktop PCs with a starting price of 26,000 baht for Core i3 and 28,000 baht for Core i5.

It is the lightest product line in the market for Ultra Thin Mobility Notebooks with the Intel Core i processor and offers dedicated graphic performance including battery life that lasts more than 10 hours with a nine-cell battery and Acer Power Smart Technology which uses up to 66 percent lower power consumption compared with standard notebooks.

Kajonkiat Aramratsameekul, Country Manager, Home and Small-Medium Business Unit, Lenovo Thailand said it will introduce the 14-inch Y460 and 15.6-inch Y560 multimedia laptops with High-Definition 16:9 widescreen with prices starting from 30,900 baht and 54,900 baht, respectively.
