Reset or Restore BIOS Password with CMOS De-Animator

BIOS password is the primary password required to log into system then into the Operating System installed. While resetting the BIOS password is not difficult for most machines, it is for some.

There are plenty of options to reset the BIOS password like removing the motherboard battery and placing it back after some ten minutes, or set jumper on the motherboard to clear the password but these options not always work for all systems.

There is a tool called CMOS De-Animator which I came across recently. CMOS De-Animator v2 is a service utility for your system’s CMOS RAM. You can use this tool to either clear the BIOS password or to restore it to the password. You can also save the settings to a file and restore it later.

The application supports all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems except Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51; for these old systems, you have to use De-Animator’s previous version. CMOS De-Animator v2 now includes a self-test on its startup to check, whether the CMOS can be successfully accessed to. After successful execution with the status “Ready to go” visible, the application can be normally used even under non-privileged accounts on your machine (i.e. under an user account).
